Terms of service

Updated October 9, 2026

The short version: Facet is free and open source, and the hosted sync service is provided as is. You’re responsible for your API keys, for how you use AI providers, and for what they charge you. Please don’t abuse the service.

1. Agreeing to these terms

These terms apply when you use the Facet app, the hosted sync service at facet.dtsoftware.io, or this website, all provided by DT Software (“we”, “us”). By using them you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you use Facet on behalf of an organization, you agree for that organization too.

2. The app and its source code

Facet’s source code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, and that license governs what you can do with the code. These terms cover the hosted sync service and the builds and website we publish.

3. Your account

4. API keys and AI providers

5. AI output

AI models can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. Check important answers before relying on them, especially for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions. You’re responsible for how you use what a model produces.

6. Acceptable use

When using the sync service, don’t:

7. Storage limits

Accounts have storage limits, currently 2 GB for attachments. We may change limits or set fair-use rules to keep the service running well for everyone, and we’ll tell you in advance if a change affects data you’ve already stored.

8. Availability and changes

The sync service is free, and we can’t promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or discontinue features. If we decide to shut the service down, we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice so you can export your data or move to a server you run yourself. Your phone always keeps a local copy of your data, and you can export it from the app at any time.

9. Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put the service or other people at risk; where reasonable, we’ll tell you first and explain why. When an account is closed, its data is deleted as described in the privacy policy.

10. Self-hosted servers

If you run your own sync server, you’re its operator: these terms don’t cover it, and you’re responsible for it and for anyone you let use it.

11. No warranties

The app and the sync service are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, to the fullest extent the law allows.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or provider charges, arising from your use of Facet. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (for a free service, nothing) and US$50. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

13. Responsibility for misuse

If someone brings a claim against us because of how you used Facet in breach of these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that result.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We’ll post changes here with a new date, and for material changes we’ll notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Facet after that means you accept the updated terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the place where DT Software is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here limits rights you have under the consumer laws of the country where you live.
